A French watch manufacture that has been machining cases since 1986 turns its workshop to seven pieces of mechanics — a racing steering wheel, a radial engine, a brake disc, two engines, a jet engine, a boat propeller — and brings them all back to a single function: telling the time.

The angle

A watch manufacture turns to the clock

B.R.M Chronographes has been machining its cases from solid since 1986, in Magny-en-Vexin, in the French Vexin, and has carried the French state's Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label since 2021. The house built its vocabulary on motor racing: screwed bezels, exposed screws, skeletonised parts, racing-team lacquers. The Clock Machines apply that vocabulary to an object the house had never made — a desk clock — and at a scale that changes everything: a piece 23 to 52 cm tall, weighing 4 to 8.5 kg.

The starting point is not a drawing of a clock, it is an existing piece of mechanics, reduced to its geometry and stripped of its original function. The brake disc no longer brakes, the jet engine no longer thrusts, the propeller no longer pulls. What remains is their shape, and a single thing to do.

Everything is machined from aluminium — never cast. Each cylinder is cut on a 7-axis CNC lathe: the part is perfect as it leaves machining. Then come bead-blasting, satin-brushing, polishing, anodising or lacquering depending on the surface, and finally assembly in the workshop.

Each finish is limited to twenty numbered pieces — twenty per finish, not twenty per model. With forty-eight finishes in the catalogue, the complete series amounts to nine hundred and sixty numbers. The number is engraved on the plate of the piece, as it is on the limited series of the watch collection.

The Steering Wheel

A racing steering wheel, at rest.

A rim, three spokes, a hub. The racing steering wheel is the most familiar object in motor sport, and the only one the driver never takes his eyes off. Set on its base, it becomes a workshop clock.

Pricing Two finishes: black anodised (€4,900) and engine-turned rim (€4,200)

The rim is machined from solid, drilled around its whole circumference, then finished until the intended surface is reached. The three spokes, pierced like those of a period steering wheel, bolt onto the central hub that carries the dial.

Two finishes exist side by side: a deep black anodised, which leaves all the light to the coloured spokes; and an engine-turned rim, whose concentric circles catch the light of a desk and change appearance with the angle.

The dial is set in a screwed bezel, with contrasting hands and indexes. A numbered plate is fitted at the top of the rim.

The Three-Blade

An aero engine and its propeller.

Three propeller blades, three finned cylinders, an octagonal dial at the centre. The radial engine is the most beautiful mechanism ever drawn for flight, and the most symmetrical: it stands on a base without losing any of its self-evidence.

Each cylinder is turned on a 7-axis CNC lathe: the part is perfect as it comes off the machine. The heads receive the chosen finish. The blades are flat, openworked, drilled and decorated, then bolted to the central crankcase.

At the centre, the dial sits in a screwed octagonal bezel, in the grammar of B.R.M Chronographes cases. Below the bezel, the numbered plate. Beneath it, the solid aluminium base — machined, lacquered, then taken to the polishing tank — reveals its ribs through two openworked arms.

This is the model with the widest range of finishes in the collection: eight finishes, including two national liveries — France and Italy — where the colour reads at the blade tips.

The Brake Disc

The brake disc, at a standstill.

The brake disc is the hardest-working part of a racing car: it heats, it glows, it takes everything. Still on its base, drilled right through, it becomes a dial of absolute sobriety.

Pricing Seven finishes, one price — €4,100

The contrast of finishes is part of the making. The disc faces are satin-brushed, then chamfered by hand, hole by hole, to bring out every perforation. The polished screw heads stand out against the black of the whole.

The cups, cut from a bar of Fortal alloy, match the colour of the hands. The central hub, with eight exposed screws, holds the bezel and the dial. At the foot of the disc, the linking piece carries the B.R.M signature and the numbered plate.

The model's internal name, DDF, is that of a chronograph family already in the manufacture's catalogue: the clock and the watches share the same original drawing.

The V-Twin

V-twin engine, dial between the legs.

Two cylinders opening in a V, their fins satin-finished in two tones, their heads capped with lacquered rocker covers. The dial sits exactly where the eye falls when you look at a motorcycle head-on: in the hollow of the V.

Pricing Six finishes, one price — €6,950

The fins are finely turned, one by one, satin-finished and picked out in two tones. The cylinder heads, capped with lacquered rocker covers, echo the shape of the engines that stir us so. The exhaust manifolds, cut on the bias, exit rearward and give the object its depth.

The dial, set in a screwed bezel, is held by two pierced arms in an X descending towards the base — the same geometry as the engine mounts of a motorcycle frame. At the foot of the bezel, the numbered shield, lacquered in the colour of the clock.

The flat base follows the foot of the range, with a line of colour running its full length.

Clock Machine No. 5 · Engine

The Flat-Twin

Two flat cylinders, the time in between.

Flat architecture is the most balanced of all mechanics: two opposed cylinders, a centre of gravity close to the ground, no parasitic vibration. Set on a base, it makes the smallest clock in the range: 23 cm high.

Pricing Seven finishes, one price — €6,950

Both cylinders are machined from aluminium, fins and rocker covers included, then finished separately: bright barrels on one side, coloured rocker covers on the other. The intake pipes rise vertically, opening into a venturi. The exhaust is cut scissor-style.

The dial, exactly on the axis, is held by two pierced arms in an inverted V that carry the colour of the clock. The bezel plate is numbered.

It is the smallest model in the range: it finds its place on a bookshelf or in a bedroom, where the other pieces call for a desk.

The Jet Engine

A crown of blades, a dial at the focus.

The fan of a jet engine: a crown of fine blades radiating around a dial. It is the most imposing piece in the range, and the only one whose base is drawn like a wing.

Pricing Two finishes — €8,400

The ring is matt. The fan is grey on the front face, black within the lacework cut-outs of the aluminium: the object changes as soon as the light moves.

The dial takes its place at the centre of the jet engine. Twelve aeronautical copper rivets heighten the brilliance of the whole.

The two black aluminium uprights link the jet engine to its delta-wing base. A tie-rod, mounted on a third point, secures the stability of the whole.

Three blades, a hull-shaped base.

The three-blade propeller of a boat, set on a base cut like a hull: the marine piece par excellence, and the only one in the range whose foot departs from the rectangular form.

The three blades are machined then dressed: solid carbon on the face, contrasting pinstripes and leading edge. Moving from one finish to another completely changes how the object reads — bronze and copper for the boatyard spirit, carbon and silver for the regatta, chequers for the finish line.

The dial, at the hub, is set in a screwed bezel with applied indexes. The two uprights are pierced and riveted, in the vocabulary of the whole range.

The base, alone in the range, leaves the rectangle behind: it is drawn like a hull, tapered at both ends.

Options and bespoke

Four freedoms, and carbon

The four freedoms apply to all seven clocks: the finish, lacquered in the workshop — the palette that serves the watches serves the clocks; the engraving, into the aluminium of the plate or the base, never printed or glued on; the logo on the dial, crest, coat of arms or company logo; and the numbered series, ten pieces for a club, fifty for a company anniversary.

The bespoke route includes a free 3D rendering with no commitment: the client sees the piece before it exists. Then allow about one month in the workshop.

That is where its use as a gift that stays comes from: a cup ends up in a cabinet, then in a box; a Clock Machine stays on a desk and tells the time for twenty years.

A piece already made in carbon does not take the corresponding option. Carbon extends the workshop lead time to six weeks.

Material

Aluminium machined from solid, never cast. Finishes: bead-blasting, satin-brushing, polishing, anodising or lacquering depending on the surface.

High-precision quartz. The battery is to be changed roughly every three years — that is not a fault.

Warranty

Ten years, excluding impact and breakage.

Series

Twenty numbered pieces per finish, the number engraved on the plate. Forty-eight finishes in the catalogue.

Manufacturing

Designed, machined and assembled at the B.R.M Chronographes workshop, Magny-en-Vexin (Val-d'Oise), France.

Lead time

About one month from the order; six weeks as soon as a piece includes carbon.

Delivery

Free until 31 December 2026, then €300. Wooden crate, insured transport.

First deliveries

From September 2026 (The Steering Wheel) to February 2027 (The Jet Engine), model by model.

Distribution

Direct sale on clock-machines.com, in six languages. Payment by card, by bank transfer, or with a 30% deposit at the order and the balance before delivery.
